Andrew
T. Fisher
Andrew Fisher, son of NOHA "founding mother," Marjorie Fisher, grew up his first seventeen years in Manhattan Kansas, graduated from Evanston Township High School in 1968, held a number of jobs as draftsman and graphic layout artist for two-sided printed circuit boards, before finally graduating from Northwestern University in 1988 with a BA degree in Computer Studies. A Northwestern graduate student from Mainland China, Cindy, inspired Andrew to return and complete at least an undergraduate college degree, so as his language at Northwestern, Andrew studied Chinese! In 1987 Andrew took a six-week tour of mainland China and visited Cindy and her family in Chengdu.
Andrew also had the opportunity to stay for almost a month in Dr. Theron G. Randolph's ecological unit in the late 1970s. That thoroughly taught Andrew all about food and chemical sensitivities, the rotation diet, and how much all the food and chemical industries are misleading the general public by taking advantage of our instinctive liking of sweets to fill us with junk food, and our artificial cultural desire for "neatness" to load our houses, lawns, and foods with toxic chemicals and pesticides! Andrew and his parents helped Dr. Randolph run his environmental support group for several years after Andrew left the ecological unit. At Northwestern University, during the peak of the "Reagan era" when all the emphasis was on earning money, Andrew started a student environmental group from scratch, was its first president, and invited such great speakers as Dr. Samuel Epstein to come and speak!
Between 1988 and 2000 Andrew held a number of full and consulting computer jobs for a number of small companies as well as such well known ones as Blue Cross Blue Shield, Abbott Laboratories, A.C. Neilson, Amoco, and Northrop Grumman. Around 1998, Andrew began to learn about and to design web pages on the growing internet. In 2002 he took an extensive training course in website design at DePaul University. Since 2001 Andrew has been webmaster for the NOHA website, and he has designed and managed several others. The most illustrative is his family "Fishwood" environmental homepage at: www.puregrassrootsinfo.org. Andrew is also co-editor of NOHA NEWS.
For hobbies and entertainment, Andrew
enjoys (1) long-distance biking,(2) skiing - both downhill and cross-country,
(3) sailing boats on Lake Michigan, (4) singing choral music with the Unitarian
Church Choir of Evanston and the 150 voice North Shore Choral Society (they
have sung three years at Ravinia), and (5) singing, dancing, and acting Gilbert
and Sullivan operettas. Andrew has sung in the chorus of Iolanthe, The
Yeomen of the Guard, The Pirates of Penzance, and The Mikado.
